| Navigating Change
|
The goal of Navigating
Change is to motivate, encourage and challenge people to take
action to improve the environmental conditions in their own
backyards, especially as it pertains to our coral reef ecosystems.
We want people to take responsibility for the stewardship
and sustainability of our islands and our ocean. We are targeting
our message to the youth of Hawai`i because the future is
in their hands. Classroom videos, teacher curriculum and more
are available with Hawai'i standards based curriculum guide

for Education and Learning (PREL) with support through a grant
from the U.S. Department of Education, award no. R203A970016,
is an interactive distance learning science program for students
in grades 5-8. Students have the opportunity to take electronic
field trips, interact with scientists, and participate in
hands-on science lessons. KidScience lessons are delivered
live or taped into the classroom via television. Teachers'

| NOAA's Ocean Explorer |
Educators and
scientists working with NOAA during October 2002 developed
a series of lesson plans for students in Grades 5 –
12 that are specifically tied to the Northwestern Hawaiian
Island Expedition. These lesson plans focus on cutting-edge
ocean exploration and research, using state-of-the-art technology,
aboard University of Hawaii’s research vessel Kilo Moana. |

| Introduced Marine
Species of Hawaii: Bishop Museum and University of Hawaii |
This brief guide
was assembled to provide information concerning some of the
most common marine alien species to people who spend time
in the coastal waters of Hawaii. Some of the more recent discoveries
of alien species have been made by photographers and aquarium
collectors. It is hoped that when individuals observe animals
not previously seen, they will bring them to the attention
of the appropriate people. This guidebook is by no means comprehensive.
An additional 250+ species of algae and animals are not yet
included. |

Foundation is to inspire and promote appreciation, understanding
and protection of whales, dolphins, coral reefs and our planet's
oceans. We accomplish this through public environmental education,
by supporting and conducting responsible marine research,
and by addressing marine conservation issues through activism
and education. |
